Feedback Reflection;
After listening back to our show ‘It Sounds Like Lincoln Rock’ which aired on Siren Radio at 3pm on Wednesday 15th November, I have noted down my personal reflection and review of the show and will too be responding and reflecting on the written feedback provided.
Our show did not get off to a good start, at all. Technically there was a lot of glitches. Straight off the bat the wrong microphones were lifted resulting in a delayed starting time and missing the first few lines of the presenters introducing themselves and the show jumping in mid-sentence. Our BA needed support which was down to poor pre-show preparation. A few more practice sessions both up in the radio studios and down at Siren would have been highly beneficial to the shows technical ease and take off. Despite the rocky start, I feel that all of us started to gain a little confidence and things started to run a little more smoothly. The desk was managed and operated well after the rocky start knocking down confidences.
As the producer of this show I felt like I should have taken a lot more control at times and have been more confident and clear with our mission. Confidence never has been my strong point, but I agree with the feedback in terms of attempting to be more vocal and in control. I could have perhaps been more vocal in terms of calming any nerves and motivating as well as keeping the team clear of the goal ahead. Using this feedback going into future shows I felt that with ‘It Sounds Like The 80’s’ I felt more confident in communicating instructions to the team, as noted in the feedback received for this particular show.
I feel that the Bar Chords package wasn’t ideal for the show as it was heavily music based already. It should have been an informative piece documenting the areas musical history. Despite this, the audio quality wasn’t at a broadcast standard and I felt that I should have re-recorded either the same or another package.
The package which was a contained interview and performance wasn’t at its best audio quality and more time should have been dedicated in ensuring this. In terms of length I felt the interview was a good length and entertaining for the listener however as there was an acoustic performance from the interviewee this seemed to make the package drag.
I feel that the presenters did an excellent job. Although at times you could tell that they were reading they also did a great job in terms of time and ad-libbing. Our time keeping wasn’t great and I think this was not only down to lack of rehearsals and preparation but also due to last minute cutting downs of packages.
Our outside broadcast segment I thought went really well despite the complete lack of planning and preparation for this. We practiced using the phone lines for our outside broadcast on the day before the show and with only a short bit of background research on our interviewee I feel the live segment couldn’t have gone better. Learning from this experience, the planning and pre-production phase is the most important. Organisation within the group is key especially with such short time windows to get things done. As the producer of the group I feel I could have taken charge more and made my ideas clear as well as keeping the group up to date in our work and organised in doing so.
